Lord Tebbit: Life and Food - the Tory Grandee in Conversation

Our headline event for Saturday night is an evening with the Tory grandee and longstanding parliamentarian.

Lord Norman Tebbit was born in Middlesex in 1931 He waseducated at Edmonton County Grammar School and 1947 became a journalist at the Financial Times. Following National Service, he joined BOAC serving as a pilot/navigator until 1970when he was elected Member of Parliament for Epping. MP for Chingford since 1974, he served a number of cabinet positions in the Thatcher government during which time he was injured in the 1984 IRA bombing of Grand Hotel, Brighton which also left his wife Margaret permanently disabled. He entered House of Lords in 1992.

Lord Tebbit is founder and chairman of Nuffield Orthopaedic Appeal and has been Chairman of the London Battle of Britain Monument Appeal since 2003. In recent years he has returned to journalism as a blogger for the Daily Telegraph.

Lord Tebbit’s books include his political memoirs Upwardly Mobile (1988) and Unfinished Business (1991) and Ben’s Story (2014) a spy thriller featuring a wheelchair-bound boy and his exceptional Labrador. His latest The Game Cook is a showcase for some of his favourite recipes that should encourage us to rediscover game.

This event will feature his love for cooking as well as exploring the extraordinary life of this political giant.
