Anne Swithinbank studied horticulture at Kew Gardens from 1976-79 and worked for Epsom and Ewell Parks Department and RHS Wisely before going freelance in 1986. As well as gardening for other people, she appeared as a presenter on BBC TV’s Gardener’s World. Gradually, writing and speaking took over from gardening and more TV work followed, including Bloom, Gardens of the Caribbean and Real Gardens. In 1994 Anne became a regular panellist on Gardeners’ Question Time for Radio 4, and still travels around the country to solve problems.
Her books include The Conservatory Gardener, No Time to Garden and Greenhouse Gardener and writes regularly for several magazines, including Amateur Gardening, Grow Your Own, Kitchen Garden and Candis. Anne lives in East Devon with husband John and their large garden acts as a workshop for ideas and experiments.
